In June 2014 we founded a new publishing company with the name THE NAME BOOKS. We invent, develop, create, produce and distribute radical art books & architecture books of highest quality in content and form – sophisticated art books in splendid beauty®.
Through a vibrant programme of books, collector’s editions, catalogues, book launches, exhibitions, events, talks and debates, THE NAME BOOKS challenges perceived notions and stimulates debate, experimentation, creativity and exchange with artists, contributors, collectors, readers and visitors.
Searching for a name for our new publishing company, we found numerous elegant, clever, and creative names but no name to really fall in love with, a name with a “click”. Then we found this wonderful Barnett Newman book from the 1971 Museum of Modern Art exhibition.
Newman – photographed here by Ugo Mulas – was a true master of abstract expressionism as well as a master of titles. His works bear titles such as: Onement, The Promise, The Voice, Day before One, The Word, Zim Zum, Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue. And finally: The Name.
The scales fell from our eyes, and we realized that a publishing company’s name can be THE NAME and so we happily decided to keep the name THE NAME.
